VisitScotland Tourism Barometer Q3 2018: Optimism Levels

    Source: VisitScotland Tourism Barometer

The Tourism Industry Barometer is a nationwide survey conducted on a quarterly basis. The survey is a partnership between VisitScotland, local councils and destination organisations. The results are used at a regional level to provide feedback to businesses on how tourism in our area is performing.

These figures represent Quarter 3 (July - September) 2018 (Sample = 89 respondents).

Almost 40% of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire respondents claimed to be very or quite optimistic about the next 3 months, mirroring the Scotland-wide picture (Sample - 1241).

This is a less optimistic outlook than the previous wave, but is indicative of the nature of our seasonal product and the winter months being a traditionally quieter period for many businesses.

The Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire sample was above the national average for "Not Very Optimistic".

The national responses for Optimism levels was as follows:

    Very Optimistic: 12.09%

    Quite Optimistic: 26.46%

    Neutral: 37.87%

    Not Very Optimistic: 14.29%

    Not At All Optimistic: 9.30%

The Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire sample is relatively small so do treat results with some caution.
